The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) operates a cheap and reliable service around Chicago. The CTA runs 24 hours a day and it includes both over-ground, which is known as ‘El’, subway trains and buses. If you plan to go to the outskirts of Chicago you might have to use Metra commuter trains or PACE buses.
The CTA routes usually run every 5 – 15 minutes, depending on the time of day and it’s recommended to buy a convenient pre-paid travel card called a ‘Transit Card’ because cash isn’t accepted on board. Chicago is one of the best cities in the United States for public transport, so we strongly recommend you utilize this service. For the latest information on fares, routes and schedules go to the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) website on www.transitchicago.com
There are loads of taxis in Chicago and especially in ‘The Loop’, which is the main area of the city. There will be a standard metre rate for getting in and there will be additional charges for every mile during your journey. Please keep in mind you are in the United States and a tip is unfortunately required.
