The most beautiful islands in the Cook Islands if not the South Pacific are the tiny islands of Aitutaki Lagoon, which are located just off the main island of Rarotonga. Its small inlets, coral reefs, stunning lagoons and picturesque beaches are now world famous because Survivor Cook Islands was recently filmed here and people had an opportunity to see just how beautiful Aitutaki is.
If you like diving and snorkelling then this is the place for you. With 30 meters or more of visibility, amazing coral reef and unbelievable marine life makes this place a must for any diving enthusiast. It’s recommend if you are in the Cook Islands for longer than a few days, that you make your way out to Aitutaki, as we guarantee you will not be disappointed. Rarotonga is the main island in the Cook Islands and it’s the main city, where the international airport is located. The island is beautiful and there are amazing beaches around the whole island.
The south coast of the island around Takitumu is a great beach, which has some of the best snorkeling and swimming on the island. The most popular swimming beach is Muri Beach, which is located on the east coast of the island. This beach faces four uninhabited islands within the reef and its lagoon is picturesque and looks like something out of a movie. In recent years this beach has become very touristy and the whole beach front is now quite built up with beach bungalows, restaurants and bars. If you are looking for something quieter then we recommend you go to the other side of the island. For more information on Rarotonga go to www.cookislands.travel
