The Cook Islands are situated in the South Pacific and are located approx. 1000 km (600 miles) north east of New Zealand. They make up one of the islands in the Polynesian island group. There are approx. 5000 people who live on the island. The Cook Islands are self – governing, but New Zealand represents them in Foreign Affairs, due to the fact they do not have any consulate services on the island.
The Cook Islands are a great place to go to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Everyone on the island runs on their own time. When I was in the Cook Islands I rented a scooter for the day, and it took 45 minutes to drive around this tiny island. The whole island has beautiful white sand beaches along with crystal blue water, making it a perfect spot for relaxation.
I would recommend the Cook Islands as a great place to spend your vacation. It has some of the best beaches in the world. If you do go make sure to buy some of their beautiful wood carvings, or some of their collector items such as coins and stamps. The only thing lacking on this island is the nightlife, but I guess you can’t have everything.
