The State of Israel is located on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea and it borders Egypt and Gaza Strip on the southwest, West Bank and Jordan in the east, Syria to the northeast and Lebanon to the North.
It declared its independence on May 14, 1948 and since then it’s been in constant disputes and wars with its neighbouring Arab countries. Many of these disputes are over the occupied territories, which includes the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights.
Israel is a developed country and has a democracy, but it’s a place you sometimes feel like you have been transported back to the eighteenth century, to a shtetl in Eastern Europe or a religious community that has been cut off from the rest of the world.
Israel is a safe place to visit, but you have to vigilant, as if you travel to places like Gaza and the West Bank things aren’t as safe. Yes things have improved in recent years, but till the Israeli occupation ends in these areas the violence will always be there, because Palestinians will always be rising up against the Israeli settlers and troops occupying their land. With all the different types of religions in the region it’s definitely a place worth visiting, as you will be engulfed in all its history and beliefs and will be transformed back to biblical times, as this is the land where Jesus was born.
